Teach? Teach! 12/08/2008

Free school?  Teach, you say? This sounds like a lot but really its just a slighty more organized version of what happens between people spontaneously everyday. People are always helping each other out and showing each other how to do things and exchanging information, we’re just trying to facilitate that. We aren’t really looking to recreate that awful thing we all suffered through that they call institutional education but rather a community skill sharing network where you can facilitate a discussion group on your  favorite books one day and go to a skill sharing session for screenprinting put on by your friend the next. So the idea isn’t so so much being a teacher behind a podium but rather a sharer of knowledge while hanging out in your living room.

This happens with people like you hosting and organizing a workshop/discussion/event etc. As such a facilitator you need to:

· share a skill, host a discussion, coordinate an event

· choose a time and location (your house, a park, a café, communal space).we can help suggest locations if you need one.

· be responsible!–you are the one making your class happen

These classes can be one time events, weekly discussions, bi-monthly debates, three times a week jam sessions, etc. You decide the what, the where, the when and the how often. Your submissions will be taken as a commitment to any potential students that might happen to come across the freeschool calender. If you are already offering some free skill share/workshop/tutoring NOLA freeschool can help you promote and advertise to more potential students. We were going to have a fixed schedule with a fancy deadline and everything, but now we will instead continue to take submissions for whenever you can have a class and post them up on our calendar here on the website.
